Module 2

There has been an increase in anti-intellectualism and our political and social system display that quite well. While we are in a world currently that is on the surface supporting individuality and independent thinking, in many ways, it is doing the opposite. So much about the current political arena and party system promotes group think and sheep type ways of being that don't support critical thinking and support competent leaders on the basis of their being and qualities. People are more aligned with political parties that aligned with the merits or demerits of the people endorsed by the parties. What an interesting variation in content this week presented for our learning. Idiocracy, on top of being incredibly hilarious, does present in many ways, an exaggerated representation of our world and political system in general. In idiocracy, it was an incredibly superficial political and social system ran and perpetuated by unintelligent people. The President had an incredibly entertaining and dominating presence both physically and mentally. In his address, it was more of a show than a genuine conversation between him and his people. He promised outcomes that were completely implausible and took absolutely no responsibility for the complete ruin of the country he was leading. While watching this film with Plato, he chuckled and muttered to himself, "this is the punishment of the wise and good". He then uttered with seriousness, "the world is in ruin, not because of the mismanagement by the incompetent, evil, and unintelligent but because the wise, good, and keen managed to let it happen. There was not a single wage or element of compensation that those people could offer the wise and true; not the cheering, accolades, money, or status. The only reward of getting involved and leading politically and socially is the peace of mind from avoiding the consequence of having not gotten involved, which would result in the world of the idiocracy. I believe President Camacho represents the innermost parts of the politicians, which are many might I add, that are motivated by the the first two and more superficial qualities of leadership and rule. Therefore, idiocracy according to my dearest movie watching pal Plato, representing the punishment of the good and wise.
