Module 4

A friend says to you, “You’re a political science major… explain to me why filling RBG’s seat on the Supreme Court has become such a controversial subject.”  Well Friend, I'm glad you asked. So the Supreme Court has a total of Nine Justices, who have a lifetime tenure which means that they keep their position  until they die, resign, retire, or are impeached and removed from office. Which is a big deal because  they are the most powerful/important judges in the nation, who are usually the last resort when talking about justice; not only that but there are also responsible for making sure each branch of the government (the executive aka. the president, legislative aka senate and house of representatives, judicial aka Supreme Court and lower courts) recognizes the limits to its power. Meaning they pretty much have the last say, for example when impeaching a president, the proses starts with the legislat...

Module 2

There has been an increase in anti-intellectualism and our political and social system display that quite well. While we are in a world currently that is on the surface supporting individuality and independent thinking, in many ways, it is doing the opposite. So much about the current political arena and party system promotes group think and sheep type ways of being that don't support critical thinking and support competent leaders on the basis of their being and qualities. People are more aligned with political parties that aligned with the merits or demerits of the people endorsed by the parties. What an interesting variation in content this week presented for our learning. Idiocracy, on top of being incredibly hilarious, does present in many ways, an exaggerated representation of our world and political system in general. In idiocracy, it was an incredibly superficial political and social system ran and perpetuated by unintelligent people. The President had an incredibly entert...

Plato and Aristotle VS Democracy       Platos writing talks about four different forms of government ; the first being timocracy, second being oligarchy, third being democracy, and the last one being tyranny. All which have their good and bad but are written in an order of best and worst. In timocracy there are very defined structures but are run by very honorable people that understand the structures to be fir the better of society. In Oligarchy also has structure but is run by a person with a personal motive that is often seen as reasonable. In democracy there is a structure but it is run by someone with personal motives that are unnecessary that don't take into consideration the better of society. Lastly, tyranny lacks structure and is run by the same unnecessary personal motives that do not have society's best interest. In his article we see the unappealing view of democracy, and we see get an idea ...

About Me

Hello my name is Daisy Alcaraz and I am a 4th year English and Sociology double major with a minor in Pre-Law. I am originally from the Valley area in Los Angeles but I have taken quite the liking to the bay area. The weather here is definitely a big draw for me. Academically, history has always interested me as there is quality of storytelling involved with it. It can be quite a captivating subject and topic if held with the right amount of creativity and open mindedness. Personally, I am in an ongoing exploration of my interests. I love nature, music, and plenty of things. I have found that as I develop as a person, my interests evolve along with my sense of self and identity. Right now, I have really been interested in rewatching the avatar series and I feel that now watching it as an adult, I am able to pull different lessons from it than I did when I was younger that are incredibly valuable to me at this point in my life. I am a first generation American born youth of Mexican...
