Module 9

Module 9

For this weeks Module I will be talking about the Green Party. I recently had to change my address in which I had to change my voting information, during this I was asked the famous question about what party I identify with. This made me realize that I do not know much about the other parties besides the fact that there was always this negative or dismissive attitude when speaking about the Green Party. According to my research the Green party is a political party that is focused on green politics, such as social justice, environmentalism and nonviolence. The Green Party believes that these issues are inherently related to one another as a foundation for world peace. The fact that the party promotes green politics, specifically environmentalism; nonviolence; social justice and a lot of other things makes it really hard for me to understand why they are not as popular. The green party seems to want everything that I think most people agree with so I don't understand why they haven't had the same support.

The green party started in 2001 in the United States by Howie Hawkins and reoccurring candidate for the Green Party during elections. But the Green Party also has origins going back to 1984, when 62 people from around the U.S. went to St. Paul, Minnesota to create the first national Green organization. And as of recently they had 240,222 members which is only 0.04 percent of registered voters in the United States.
